While eveyone breaks away SR-30 Support to post process their parts and speed up time in the lye bath it isn't actually considered a breakaway support. The SR stands for Soluble Release/Removal.

Soluble Support was an "upgrade" from the original breakaway support. Their abbrevitions were Breakaway Support Technology (BST) and Soluble Support Technology (SST). In this industry every upgrade or advantage has a cost but also a downside. The downside of SST / Soluble: it's brittle, shatters and flys everywhere, cuts your hands up, often embeds in the part and needs the bath regardless slowing the whole process down. We are so far removed from BST availability that most think SST is both breakaway and soluble.

Our BST / Breakaway Support: processes using a Soluble eeprom chip and the same parameters as SR-30. It uses the same T12SR30 tips too; use a fresh tip when you switch over. The BST peels away in big chunks, fast: your part is ready to use or ship the same day.

BST is $160 per spool less than SR-30 for huge annual savings, especially if you are a school because Stratasys magnaimity or EDU discount isn't available on Soluble because they haven't any competition, except of course if you know about BST.

Most service bureaus report the ability to use BST on 90% of jobs. It is easy to swtich back to SST, just unload the BST, change tips to the one you dedicated to SR-30, load the SR-30 canister, tip calibration and done. Or if you have multiple machines keep BST in most and SST in one and fewer support changes necessary. Add up your annual SR-30 spend, calculate 38% and that is your annual savings.

Do yourself a favor and try a spool of Breakaway Support made from High Impact Polystyrene (HIPS). The clean up process is night and day as compared to SST, you could almost call it pleasant. Upgrade :) to BST!

Argyle Materials will credit you $5 per eeprom chip from any Stratasys spool, cassette, canister or dongle. Save your chips in bags marked by material type and color and return for credit to 207 SE 16th St., Pella, IA 50219. No RMA form needed. Pry the chips off the F Series spools, cut the dongle off the F120-F770 feed tubes or unscrew the chips from Dimension or Fortus cassettes a or canisters respectively.

Argyle Materials was the first filament povider to offer a recycling program which presumably encouraged Stratasys to follow suit. Now SSYS only wants the Fortus casnisters back. We recommend you harvest the eeprom chips and send to us for credit while continuing to recycle the metal canister with Stratasys.

If you have an F Series machine keep the e-waste out of landfull by harvesting the chips or dongle (silicone chip holder) and send to us for credit.

Stratasys is no longer selling part # 310-30500 SR-20 support, ostensibly to force companies to upgrade their Classic Fortus 400mc or 900mc machines. Argyle Materials to the rescue: we take the OEM handcuffs off.

AI will tell you Stratasys PC-ABS uses soluble support, but the exact support depends on the printer family:

The two SR-20 canisters are exactly the same. All you need to do is unscrew the black Plus chip, remove the plastic indexing tab, pre-drill a new screw hole for the Classic chip and install the new white Classic chip. Then send the Plus chip back to us.

Alternatively you can switch to our PC-ABS (its also flame retardant) and it prefers to run with an ABS-M30 eeprom which means you can run SR-30 Soluble Support or our Breakaway (HIPS) support using an SR-30 eeprom chip. By the way our Breakaway also works with OEM PC-ABS, offers faster support removal and much lower consumable cost; consider Breakaway if your parts have easily removed support.

If you are like us we assumed Stratasys OEM filament was made in the USA. Even the pour report necessary for importing or returning used canisters shows the canister is made in MN. Take a look at the email below from Stratasys notifying which materials will have production moved from Israel to Minnesotta (MN) later this year: wow.

Argyle's Stratasys like materials: ABS, ASA, ABS-ESD, PC-ABS (FR), PC, Nylon 12 CF, Ultem 9085 and 1010 and Ultem Support filaments are all made in the USA then warehoused in USA and Canada. If the OEM prodcuton transition from Israel to Minnesota has any hick-ups and you can't source OEM materials keep Argyle Materials in mind as an alternate FDM materials supplier.

OEM email here:

From: Corporate Quality <Corporate.Quality@stratasys.com>
Sent: Wednesday, February 25, 2026 12:51 PM
Subject: Manufacturing Location Change Notification

As part of our continuous improvement and operational excellence initiatives, manufacturing of these products will transition from Israel to the United States.

This transition will form a focused center of excellence for FDM to better serve our customers.

Implementation Timing:
The transition is expected to be completed by May 2026 and will be implemented in a phased manner to ensure continuity of supply and minimal customer disruption.

Scope of Change:
Manufacturing facility relocation:

Customer Impact:

This change does not impact product design, specifications, or materials, form, fit, or function. Manufacturing will continue under validated and controlled processes, and all applicable regulatory and quality requirements will remain fully met.

The manufacturing location change applies only to the part numbers listed in this notification. No other products are affected.

One of our maintenance and materials customers reached out to solve a problem with the PC-ISO from Stratasys. Argyle doesn't sell PC-ISO, it is too niche a product. Since PC-ISO is a niche product new Stratasys OEM PC-ISO canisters for Fortus 400mc are in fact old inventory and suffering from moistures issues.

We suggested the customer order PC-ISO in Plus canisters meant for a Fortus 450mc: fresher inventory. Upon receipt customer removes the black Plus chip and removes the offset from center plastic tab or tang that the chip slots into. We supply the customer with a classic PS-ISO eeprom and with the tang removed it screws into place. The canister works in either system and with the eeprom chip changed the dry PC-ISO from fresh inventory runs on a classic Fortus 400mc.

Customer sends us the recovered Plus chips and everybody wins, even Stratasys because they keep selling PC-ISO to help turn over their inventory and customer gets the parts they need in material of choice on a reliable T Class Fortus 400mc expertly maintained by our sister company Pivot AM Service.

Argyle offers additional material options not available from the OEM: Stratasys. We offer many more ABS materials, all the shades. We also offer a Dark Gray ASA Stratasys doesn't offer.

By comparison Stratasys ABS cost is $3.92 per cubic inch and Argyle Materials ABS costs $2.70 per cubic inch, which is ascertained by dividing the price of the spool by the volume of the spool. We are 31% less than Stratasys ABS model material pricing for F120 and F770.

Stratasys ASA cost is $4.195 per cubic inch as compared to Argyle ASA cost of $2.89 per cubic inch or 31% less than OEM model material for F120 and F770.

Savings outlined above are before our $5 per eeprom chip return credit. We supply three chips with each spool. Once chips are returned the chip credit makes the net price of our materials $15 less per spool. Save your OEM model chips for a $5 return credit; just cut the tube behind the silicone chip holder to send in.

A customer shared with us their customization of the Material Bay for a clean look and machine set-up. They used a 1/4" drill to make holes at the back of the spool bays. Drilled two holes then joined the holes and cleaned it up by moving the bit back and forth. With a USB power port from Amazon they now keep the cables hidden while powering our Dongel Repair Device (DRD) chips. See attached photos. #teamwork
